Working Principle

Patient Counseling and Selection:

Expectations: Discuss the actual efficacy, potential risks, recovery period, and the number of treatments required (usually 1-3 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart). Informed Consent: After explaining all risks and benefits, obtain written informed consent.
Pretreatment Preparation (Weeks Before Treatment):
Skin Care Regimen: Patients may take a topical retinoid (e.g., tretinoin) and/or hydroquinone 2-4 weeks before treatment to prepare the skin and reduce the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). Antiviral Prophylaxis: For patients with a history of cold sores, oral antiviral medication (e.g., valacyclovir) is recommended starting 2 days prior to treatment and continuing for several days.
On the Day of Treatment:
Pre-treatment Photographs: Standard, high-quality photographs of the treatment area should be taken.
Skin Cleansing: The patient's skin must be thoroughly cleansed with a gentle, non-greasy cleanser, removing all makeup, sunscreen, and oil.
Anesthesia:
Local Anesthesia: Prior to the procedure, a strong local anesthetic cream (e.g., lidocaine/tetracaine) is applied to the treatment area and covered with an occlusive dressing for 60-90 minutes. This is crucial for patient comfort. Other Options: For more aggressive treatments or full-face procedures, nerve blocks or oral sedatives may be used clinically.
The effects of fractionated CO2 laser treatment aren't permanent, but they can be long-lasting. By stimulating collagen regeneration, it can significantly improve wrinkles, scars, and other skin problems. This tissue regeneration typically lasts for several years. However, since it can't prevent future natural aging, the longevity of these results depends heavily on strict post-surgery sun protection and maintenance.
